Journal: Week 79

my first client telling me i was professional and sincere, a guy at the gym who wouldn't tell me anything useful, and remembering the people who taught me everything back when i had nothing to give them

✨ Highlights of the Week

highlight of the week was probably that i received my biggest compliment from a client. from the start of the session as i ran an evaluation on his physique with some warmups, i quickly identified that his right shoulder wasn’t as mobile as it should be; so i flagged it out, and he got surprised and started to be very attentive haha. then this client was also one of the many who are the 一点就通 kind. so by sharing some practical tips and concepts, he was able to understand and apply them immediately. and then after the session, he sent me a message saying that he felt that i was very professional and sincere, and that he had more interest and motivation in fitness now. this is the first time a client has said this to me, and it really made me feel that my work is meaningful. it also reminded me that i should always be professional and sincere in my work, and that i should always strive to improve myself.

and from this gratefulness, i went to different gym centres as i always do, i tried to seek hints from this one guy, he has a solid build, we talked, vibed, i thought everything was good, and then i started asking some genuine questions on certain exercises, how he does the vacuum in posing, the only thing i got was “哦 这个是有讲究的,嗯 很多讲究”,“这里的 machine 不好”,“这个要练很久”,等等, so i didnt really get any practical feedback on what i was asking…

it reminded me of the great people i met throughout my fitness journey from the VERY VERY start. i couldn’t imagine myself here without them, they are so kind, so generous, i felt that they truly wanted me to be better. for real, i would literally drop my friends videos to ask if my form was good or bad, treating them like free online PT sessions… and they would always give me their honest feedback, and they would always be willing to share their knowledge with me.

this is what keeps me going, ill keep sharing with people who need help with their fitness journey, and ill keep learning from those who are willing to share their knowledge with me. i will always be grateful for the people who have helped me along the way, and i will strive to be that kind of person for others, too.

🔧 Projects

🏋️ Gym Buddy

  • Rebuilt the bottom bar into six icon-only tabs, and gave Progress and Rank their own homes instead of rows buried inside Me
  • Turned Progress into one scrolling ledger: a records wall, this week against last, twelve weeks of volume, and how the work splits across muscles
  • Made the onboarding quiz the front door, and let its answers arrive as a filled-in training week you can edit before saving
  • Let a session start with no plan at all, with the movement pills ordered by whatever has gone longest untrained
  • Gave the finished-session recap a verdict line and a load profile, and let you tap any set to correct it
  • Added a thirty-day calorie chart to the diet page, and let past days’ weigh-ins be edited or deleted
  • Moved the coach roster onto its own page, ordered by who has stalled, and let a coach edit a student’s plan in place
  • Added a keypad beside every weight wheel, so a number can be typed instead of spun

💪 Fitness

  • Planned a session around a goal I had assumed instead of asked for, then heard the real one afterwards and logged it as a correction rather than quietly swapping it
  • Dropped a cue mid-session when it made the movement awkward, then worked out the cue was fine and it was the starting position that left no room for it
  • Moved a corrective exercise from the end of the session up into the warm-up, since the same movement does a different job depending on where it sits
