Journal: Week 83

ten years of beatboxing snuck up on me halfway through writing this, and the next wildcard gets terms i can be held to: ready two months out, recorded one month out, zero flaws

✨ Highlights of the Week

after ages, as i finally got some time, i arranged a lesson again with artsy to advance my beatbox knowledge, my goal next is to compete in one of the biggest asia beatbox competitions, this time, i learnt from all the mistakes i made from last wildcard, lack of prep, time management, location, stress under pressure while filming and equipment disadvantages… not gonna happen again this time, and i set myself to have this ready 2 months before and recorded 1 month before, and make sure it has 0 flaws.

thats my goal now, and sub goals are that im trying to get more new sounds and hopefully i can get this first sound thats called Bone Roll.. been trying for 3 days, got the concept but couldn’t do it, it’s rare… usually i get a sound in less than 6 hours, and this feeling is really discouraging for me right now uhhh but i got this, watch me

and the rest i gotta do is actually trusting the process, i got this. and i’ve always been so grateful to be able to do what i want to do, when i want to do something, i get things done.

beatboxing has been my good friend for 10 years, oMG, yes it’s 10th year now…….. OMG!

i didn’t even think about it until writing it down, 2016 was the year i learnt beatboxing.

another version of me

that is a completely diff self; i get to be an aggressive battler on stage

get to express what’s in my head in a form of voices

man.

isn’t beatboxing fun?

📋 Recap

📚 NUS

  • Scored 10/10 on the fourth quiz, having worked nine of the ten answers before checking any of them, against three that had needed correcting on the last one
  • Audited Week 4 and found the tracker recording state without ever rendering a verdict on it, which is how four topics sat below the first mastery level unnoticed
  • Archived six Canvas announcements that had been read and never filed, every one of them a rule rather than a notice
  • Closed the Week 4 project milestone 31 hours before the deadline while missing my own, and committed a placeholder into a classroom repo whose main branch cannot be rewritten, so it stays there for good

✍️ Blog

  • Published the DeepSeek harness note, written on 18 August and left sitting in a folder for twelve days, which is what a note ships live means when nobody is holding the gate

🔧 Projects

🏋️ Gym Buddy

  • Let a coach run a student’s session from their own phone, logging every set into it, and hand the account back with an invite the student claims themselves
  • Added Credits, a lifetime number derived from the training log that only ever rises, sitting beside the rank score that can fall
  • Opened the rank ladder on your own standing rather than on everyone else’s, and gave each rung its own ring
  • Put likes and comment threads on a take, and gave the Lobby one page for everything addressed to you
  • Put today’s roster on the Lobby, and opened a movement onto whoever else trains it
  • Made a day close on what is known rather than on what went well, so a rest day still closes and the run through it survives
  • Made the next-day suggestion rank by which muscles are still uncovered rather than by which day has waited longest
  • Stocked the plans shelf from the database and gave it a browse page, so the catalogue changes without a deploy
  • Dropped the gates on weigh-ins and post-session reviews, so every account gets both
  • Kept the rest timer running across an app kill, and took back the long press that gave the app away as a web page
  • Cut what the busiest pages read, after one Lobby feed page turned out to cost forty-two thousand rows to draw twenty-four cards

🛠️ Tooling and site

  • Taught the handoff skill to read the session’s own messages back off disk, since everything it had ever dropped was something said out loud rather than written down

💪 Fitness

  • Learned that a full-body day beats a split for anyone training about once a week, since one visit is then a complete session rather than a third of one
  • Caught a cue going out at half its length, where the missing half was the part that does the work
