Journal: Week 84

a week packed enough to feel like the old ones, friends as the first VIP users who are too nice to roast it, and the one number that decides when this becomes an app: 100 daily actives

✨ Highlights of the Week

another fulfilling week, work, study, and gym! i’d say it’s been a long time since i had one this packed and hectic tho.

but to be honest i would still prefer working from home, you get to immerse yourself in work, really down into the 心流 state, no one and nothing can distract you from getting work done. but either way, i believe it’s just how i control how i feel, nothing can stop me from achieving what i want anyway.

the product is getting more and more mature, and i’m reaching out to friends almost every day, asking them to give it a try then collecting their valuable feedback. they are my first batch of VIP users, and i’m just so appreciative of it. well… they are just too nice, only a few of them would actually “roast” my idea, and yeah, hoping to get this idea verified asap by eoy.

my goal is to reach 100 dau, and that’s when i make it an app!

and it will get there!

📋 Recap

📚 NUS

  • Submitted the second practical twelve minutes before it closed, after two earlier attempts had already failed for unrelated reasons, and came out of the lab half on full marks
  • Lost half a mark to the classroom submit tool quietly rewriting the one file the question had asked me to edit, got it refunded, and replaced the warning that had sat in my checklist since August with a check that actually runs
  • Rebuilt the practical helpsheet from prose into tables behind a keyword index, having now learned three times over that covering everything is not the same as finding anything while the clock is running
  • Learned to separate a condition you check by asking a person from one you check by looking at the screen, which turns out to be the whole difference between a condition that can be argued and one that cannot
  • Drafted a one-page closed-book helpsheet ordered by the questions I got wrong rather than by chapter, after every question about what an object is came back right and every question about how two objects relate came back wrong

🔧 Projects

🏋️ Gym Buddy

  • Stopped the app comparing lifts made at different gyms, after training at another branch read as getting thirty-two kilos weaker, so the verdict is now withheld rather than shown wrong
  • Made the diet target work itself out from your own numbers, instead of asking you to type in a maintenance figure you had to already know
  • Put the week on the diet page as seven tappable days and sectioned each day by meal, leaving today unjudged while there is still eating left to do
  • Let you share your eating day to the Lobby if you ask for it, counting from the day you say yes and never backwards over days you ate in private
  • Added a suggested working weight for every movement, drawn from everywhere you have trained rather than only from the last time in this gym
  • Wrote the session review twice over, so someone who says they are new gets a card written to welcome them rather than the one an experienced lifter gets
  • Made every credit point back at the thing that earned it, so the balance stops being a number you have to take on trust
  • Gave every package sold its own record, carrying the sessions it has delivered and a way to log one that was already run
  • Added a nudge toward a second workout that day, then took it back out three days later rather than leave a prompt that only nagged

🛠️ Tooling and site

  • Rewrote the handoff skill to write its document as the session runs rather than rebuilding it at the end, since the old shape billed its largest cost at exactly the point there was least room left for it

💪 Fitness

  • Audited the block a week before it retires and found the frame had held while the movements inside the slots quietly swapped themselves out, which is how my arms ended up running at twice the weekly volume of the muscle the whole block was built around
  • Took back my own read that my glutes had grown too big, once the numbers showed the posterior chain had run more than twice the quads, so it was the quads being small that made them look big
  • Brought the division decision forward by eight months, because it decides how the lower body gets trained and holding it open was costing more than choosing
  • Left the shoulder open rather than closing it a second time, after “almost no pain” turned into “used to it”, which is adaptation rather than recovery
