Journal: Week 85

missed a quiz that had been sitting in my calendar the whole time, and found out my rules only ever watched the channel i talk through

✨ Highlights of the Week

missed my tcx2102 quiz today. felt like shit ngl.

i’ve always treated google calendar (gc) as my SSOT. claude, gemini, doubao are my personal assistants, they do my shit, compile and gather info, and all of it goes into my gc. everything -> gc -> all in there.

found out at 22:39. the grades page said missing. it had been due at 18:00, so it was already four and a half hours gone by the time i knew anything was wrong.

i just felt incredible like shit.

and then i looked properly, and it was in gc the whole time. canvas pushes it in automatically, so it had been sitting on my calendar all along, just not on the one calendar i actually watch. my rule says a deadline goes on important the moment it shows up. but that rule only fires when someone mentions a deadline to an agent in a conversation, and a canvas import is never mentioned by anyone. so it has never once fired on a quiz.

so it crossed my line that the agents aren’t listening to my word, aren’t following the rules, and then it turned out no rule was even watching. i wrote rules for the channel i talk through, not for the channel things actually arrive on.

it took me to a point where i need to study the things i’ve been doing wrong.

it’s never been too late, i believe that. there’s always such a point in life that makes a turning, so i learnt, and improve from this.

i’ll share more about how i improve my workflow with llm as i go.

📋 Recap

📚 NUS

  • Shipped the individual project’s sixth week a day early, after five attempts at one function where the condition came out right every time and the wrong action got attached to it
  • Learned the expensive version is the silent one: the attempt that quietly appended on both paths, so the budget never moved, passed every linter green, while the loud failures cost nothing
  • Found I learn this faster from one working version and a three-row diff against my own attempt than from five rounds of hints

🔧 Projects

🏋️ Gym Buddy

  • Traded the app’s forever-free promise for a public beta, and wrote into the Terms that training already logged stays readable whatever happens to price later
  • Gave a shared eating day its own page with the meals behind the numbers, so the plate can be looked at and not just the total
  • Opened what the app remembers about how you eat, let it propose what it read in your own notes rather than file a guess as a fact, and made deleting one of those facts ask first
  • Put every photograph on disk before it goes anywhere near the network, after losing the same lunch twice
  • Let a session nobody chose to end be taken back, after every session the app had ever closed on its own turned out to be refusing to reopen by arithmetic
  • Let you set the training day’s reset on a clock and move a session onto the day you actually trained, after someone lifted at twenty past midnight and watched it land on the wrong date
  • Started recording what a set held before it was edited or deleted, since a training log that cannot say what a row used to be is not a log
  • Threaded replies under the comment they answer, and started telling everyone in a thread when someone replies instead of only the post’s owner
  • Opened the session page on the day’s own anatomy, with the movements swipeable and the rest timer on the edge
  • Named the person on the one irreversible button a coach taps, after ending someone else’s session handed back a receipt in my own name

🛠️ Tooling and site

  • Changed what a handoff hands over, from one task with a next action to the several threads a session actually holds, after five patches in fifteen days had each rescued one lost thread without touching the unit that kept losing them

💪 Fitness

  • Closed the ten-week block and found it never ran its own thesis: the muscle the whole thing was built around took its full volume for nine weeks and produced nothing readable
  • Learned the variable was rotation rather than volume, since the lift that ran five variants across four gyms reads nothing while the four that were never swapped are all up and one has doubled
  • Moved the next block’s bias after two coaches looked at me in person, which is the one thing a log cannot hand you, and the weakest evidence turned out to be sitting under the volume I was least willing to cut
  • Recorded posing at zero for the whole block as a design failure rather than a discipline one, because the day named it and held nothing to open, log or tick
  • Cut my own vocabulary out of everything a student reads, after one of them deleted the word from every line and said it sounded nothing like me
  • Learned that a deletion is an instruction too: applying the words someone swapped while carrying back the sentence they struck put a thing in writing that was never going to happen in that session
